J’adore the Sunday Telegraph

Just in case you were confused as to why Charlize Theron made the front page of yesterday’s Sunday Telegraph. Don’t fear. It wasn’t a fateful tribute.

In a bold move, the Telegraph Media Group‘s showcased its first ever ‘newspaper feel’ full-page cover wrap  – and it was designer brand Dior that stumped up the cash for the privileged spot.

But, the reaction on Twitter was that the media group had commercially sold its soul and this was a sorry bid to fight off declining sales. Not to mention, highly offensive to quality journalism. (Although the Sunday Telegraph was quick to say exactly the opposite).

Personally, I think the editors should be congratulating themselves for putting themselves firmly in the middle of a win-win-win situation. They’ve gained trade coverage for a fresh and new advertising move, pocketed the money and got consumers (who possibly wouldn’t have looked twice at the title) to buy, read and publicly talk about it.

Whatever your thoughts, this debate answers why Charlize was hiding under shades and a beanie hat yesterday. She wanted nothing to do with this media row.
